Lexus Models Affected by Takata Airbag Recall
![]() Cause: Three years ago, in April of 2013, Japanese automotive parts supplier Takata announced a defect in its airbags that ultimately caused a 34-million vehicle recall in the United States involving almost two dozen automotive brands. The Takata airbag recall includes Lexus, as it was found that some Lexus models may include defective inflator and propellant devices that don’t deploy as intended during an accident. Instead of deploying properly, these airbags may shoot metal fragments and shrapnel at vehicle occupants. In Lexus vehicles, the affected components are Takata-supplied passenger-side airbag inflators. Lexus models included in the recall span nearly two decades and include the SC430, IS, ES and GX. Since the recall came to light, Takata has stated they have little knowledge about which vehicles include these defective inflators and where the root of the problem lies. Affected Lexus Models: Lexus SC430 (2002-2008 model year) 2002 Lexus SC430 Lexus IS (2006-2015 model year) 2006 Lexus IS Lexus ES (2007-2011 model year) 2007 Lexus ES Lexus GX (2010-2016 model year) 2010 Lexus GX
